DJ GROOVE MERCHANT is a living legend, who – after spending some time behind the scenes – is ready to conquer the stage again. 15.000 records in stock, ‘black music’s best: funk, soul, jazz, disco, acid jazz, hiphop, nu soul, soulful/jazzy/Latin/Afro beats, garage, as long as it is funky! 1981 marks his debut, discovering James Brown, Defunkt and George Clinton. Later on he starts making radio at Antwerps independant radio Centraal with his legenday “P-Funk All Stars” show, which gets him a residency at Sfinks festival. Up next, Vibes Ahead collective, creating Belgium’s most funky band ever, Wizards Of Ooze. Groove Merchant heads through Belgium, Holland, France and England, warming up and afterpartying at their shows. Afterwards – are you hanging in there? – another important mark: Groove Merchant kicks up the independent musicmagazine PLASTIKS, which attracts recognition worldwide. Groove Merchant is asked to warm up for several international artists like Maceo Parker, George Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, Incognito, Urban Species, D-Influence, Maze, Carleen Anderson, Wizards Of Ooze, Angie Stone, Jhelisa, Jill Scott, Macy Gray, St Germain, Jamiroquai, James Taylor Quartet, Freakpower, Eddie Harris, Temptations, Kelis, Jovanotti, Omar and last but not least… Prince. Next up: playing abroad in Holland (Effenaar, Paard van Troje, Mazzo, Jimmy Whoo, Het Danssalon, De Melkweg, Paradiso, Drum Rhythm Festival…), France (Batofar, New Morning…) London (Blue Note Club, The Jazz Café, Ronnie Scott’s, Madam JoJo’s…), New York, Berlin, Dublin, Essaouira.
